Accessibility

Off Camera should work for everyone who makes posts, on a laptop or on a phone, however they get around the web. We build to WCAG 2.2 level AA, and to some AAA criteria where they matter most for a video tool. This page says what that means in practice, what is not right yet and how to reach us.

What we build for

  • Keyboard: every screen works without a mouse. Every public page starts with a “Skip to content” link, focus is always visible, dialogs keep focus inside them and hand it back when they close and the studio and Dailies have shortcuts listed in Settings.
  • Screen readers: controls have names, status changes such as a finished export are announced, and the captions drawn over previews are hidden from screen readers so the script is not read twice.
  • Contrast and size: body text is at least 7:1 against its background and every other piece of text at least 4.5:1. Interface text is at least 12 pixels (labels drawn inside a video frame scale with the frame), and every screen is checked on a phone-sized window without sideways scrolling.
  • Motion: if your device asks for reduced motion, the site and the studio stop their ambient animation and keep only what explains a change. Anyone can also press “Pause motion” at the foot of the home page: every loop, video and demo stops where it is, and the choice is remembered on that device. A tap on any example video pauses it.
  • Your videos: every export has word-by-word captions burned in, set large with a heavy outline and kept inside each app's safe area, so they read on mute and on busy footage. Each export also comes with a subtitle file (.srt) for platforms that take a caption track.

What is not right yet

  • The studio preview is silent until you press Hear it, which reads the script aloud; the music is only in the exported file.
  • Stock footage has no text description yet, so a screen reader hears the script but not what the clip shows.
  • Drag and drop on the calendar has a button-based alternative on every day, but reordering inside a day is mouse and touch only.
